THE COLOR OF MUSIC

Welcome!

Welcome! I hope you will find within my books heart-felt stories brimming with unique characters, engaging plots and relatable situations. Reading fiction is supposed to carry you on a journey— not just to learn about places—but to encounter people, all types, maybe ones you’ve never been around—and learn of their quirks, struggles, successes, or how they made it through circumstances that seemed to be arrayed against them. Maybe you’ll meet someone in one of my stories who encourages you or helps you gain a different perspective on life. Most of all, I hope that after you have read one of my books, you will come away with a sense of having been right next to the characters, as if you were a silent observer within the story.

I write within different fiction genres: historical, young adult (characters are 12 to 18 years old), new adult (characters are usually 18 to 25 years old), and children’s. Some of my books are being published and some are in various stages, nearing completion. Please check back regularly for updates!

BIO

Jackie Branch’s journey into writing was inspired by a love of reading, as she was mesmerized by Ralph Ellison, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Chinua Achebe, Colson Whitehead, Edward P. Jones and Alice Walker. “The Color of Music” was written as a tribute to her mother, and is a fictionalized account of her mother’s life in Atlantic City in the early 1950’s working as a hotel maid where she and her sister encountered racism daily.

When she’s not writing, she’s out walking and biking in nature (her favorite muse), or strolling any beach along the Atlantic coast. She considers herself an amateur naturalist, and has taught summer nature camps for children in the past. She lives with her husband in Virginia and has two adult children and two grandchildren.
